Over the duration of this online short course, you’ll work through the following modules:
Module 1 An Introduction to Property Development and Investment
Discover the development and investment process, property in emerging markets, and property as an asset class.
Module 2 Identifying Investment Opportunities
Explore the precursors to investment, property entrepreneurship, and the external investment environment.
Module 3 Property Law and the Legal Environment
Find out about town planning rules and regulations, property ownership, and compliance.
Module 4 Property Cash Flow and Investment
Investigate how to generate property cash flow and income, and enter the investment environment.
Module 5 The Role of Property Valuation
Learn about valuation, the factors affecting it, and its impact on lending, taxation, and risk management.
Module 6 Property Funding and Financing
Explore the differences between property funding and financing, and the lender's and investor's perspectives.
Module 7 The Development Process
Understand the processes involved in the conception, feasibility and sustainability analysis, and execution of the property development process.
Module 8 Property Management
Learn about the steps involved in managing a property, and the difference between property, facilities, and asset management.

Francois Viruly
Property Economist; Associate Professor, UCT
Viruly has more than 20 years of experience in the property industry and is highly respected in this field. He is an associate professor, industry speaker, researcher, and the director of the Urban Real Estate Unit at UCT. He also specialises in independent property economics consulting.
This course is approved by the University of Cape Town and is validated by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) for CPD credits. The course has an estimated 80 hours of learning and South African engineering professionals can earn up to eight CPD credits.*
