Module 1 Introduction to Energy Efficiency: Importance, Strategies, and Challenges
Learn about the basics and benefits of energy efficiency, as well as energy efficiency barriers.

Module 2 Energy Metrics, Economics, and the Business Case for Energy Efficiency
Learn about energy metrics, basic energy economics, and how to use energy economics to support the business case for energy efficiency.

Module 3 Energy-Efficient and Sustainable Buildings: General Considerations and Regulations
Learn about sustainable buildings and materials, as well as the regulations applicable to energy efficiency in buildings.

Module 4 Energy-Efficiency Management and Technologies in Buildings
Discover how demand-side management, and energy-efficient lighting, water heating, and HVAC can contribute to energy efficiency in buildings.

Module 5 Energy-Efficiency Management and Technologies in the Industrial Sector
Learn about energy efficiency in relation to the conservation of heat in boilers and furnaces, as well as energy efficiency in motor-driven systems.

Module 6 Energy Auditing
Discover how to identify opportunities for energy saving by performing an energy audit.

Module 7 Measurement and Verification
Learn about how to measure and verify energy savings.

Module 8 Energy Management Systems
Discover how to develop and implement an energy management system for a facility.

YOUR COURSE CONVENORS

Richard Larmour

Research Officer at the Energy Research Centre (ERC) based at UCT

Larmour has a Master of Science in engineering (energy studies) from UCT. He has expertise in the areas of measurement and verification, energy efficiency, pump systems optimisation, and motor-driven systems optimisation, and has worked at the UCT Energy Research Centre since 2010. Larmour has published several articles in Energy Management News and co-authored a chapter in Measurement and Verification Practices.

Mascha Moorlach

Member of the Measurements and Verification team at the ERC at UCT

Moorlach obtained a Master of Science in architecture, systems, and planning from the University of Technology in Eindhoven. After graduating in 1996, she worked as a consultant engineer with Sweegers en de Bruijn in the Netherlands. She relocated to South Africa and worked as an architectural draughtsperson before joining the UCT Energy Research Centre as an energy-efficiency engineer.
