Dr Amanda Filtane
Lecturer, Department of Construction Economics and Management, UCT
Dr Filtane is a seasoned construction manager and academic, renowned for her expertise in construction management and building information modelling (BIM) and has dedicated her career to improving efficiency and excellence within the construction industry. Before joining academia, she previously held various industry positions within the discipline of construction and project management, for both private and public sector institutions. Armed with a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management, an MPhil in Building Information Modelling, and a recently awarded PhD in Construction Business Models and Performance, Dr Filtane brings a unique blend of academic insight and practical wisdom to her teaching and research pursuits. Outside of academia, Dr Filtane actively engages in training and development initiatives for emerging contractors, focusing on enhancing their business acumen and project execution skills. Her collaborations with various NGOs underscore her commitment to fostering growth and sustainability within the construction sector as both an active global citizen as well as an engaged scholar.
Dr Filtane is a registered member of the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), reflecting her professional stature and dedication to excellence in the field. She is also the founding director of Built Environment Clinic, a non-profit company focused on student and graduate development towards employment, entrepreneurship and professional registration of all engineering and the built environment students.
Karen Le Jeune
Course Convenor
Le Jeune practised as a professional quantity surveyor until 2001, notably becoming a managing partner of Walters Simpson & Du Toit in 1998. Having lectured part-time at UCT whilst working in private practice, she joined as a full-time staff member in 2002. Her research interests include generational theory, women in the built environment, green buildings and service learning.
Le Jeune serves as a professional member of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors, a chartered surveyor registered with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and a Pr.QS registered with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession. Karen is also a member of the Society of Architects Planners Engineers and Surveyors (APES) and Women’s Property Network (WPN).
