COURSE CURRICULUM

Over the duration of this online short course, you’ll work through the following modules:

Module 1 Making the Case for Change
Understand the need for change, investigate different change models and strategies, and learn how to communicate change effectively.

Module 2 Winning Over Key Stakeholders and Influencers
Identify key stakeholders, learn how to engage with stakeholders, and present a case for change.

Module 3 Developing Strategic Change Initiatives
Investigate successful change strategies, change interventions, and organisational readiness for change.

Module 4 Creating a Climate for Change
Learn about the change cycle, systems theory, and the importance of creating a climate for change.

Module 5 Preparing an Implementation Plan for Change
Explore the relationship between project management and change management.

Module 6 Addressing Resistance and Removing Barriers
Understand the Theory of Change, resistance to change, and how to build change resilience in an organisation.

Module 7 Monitoring the Outcomes of a Change Initiative
Understand the process of evaluating an organisation’s state of change in the post-implementation phase of change management.

Module 8 Sustaining Change in an Ever-Evolving Environment
Learn how to embed change in an organisation to ensure future sustainability.

COURSE CONVENOR

Dr Carren Duffy

Senior lecturer, supervisor and researcher, Section of Organisational Psychology, School of Management Studies, UCT

Carren Duffy joined UCT in 2009 after gaining vast experience as a human resource consultant and trainer. In 2018, she completed her PhD with a thesis focused on the broad domain of human resource development. The research investigated the extent to which organisations in South Africa use training evaluation data and feedback as a vehicle for organisational learning and change.

Duffy teaches, supervises, and researches across both streams of Organisational Psychology and Programme Evaluation. Her dominant research areas include training and development, organisational learning, labour relations, programme and training evaluation, and programme theory.

She convenes the first-year introductory course to Organisational Psychology and co-convenes the Honours in Change Management programme. As a teacher and supervisor, she facilitates change, influences minds, and impacts the lives of her students.
