Explore the importance of Project Integration Management and Project Stakeholder Management in initiating a project.

Module 5 Managing Project Scope
Understand project scope management and begin the planning phase of your project.

Module 6 Managing Project Time
Gain an understanding of the importance of Project Time Management as it relates to project success.

Module 7 Managing Project Cost
Determine how to balance cost against the benefits received from spending money on the project.

Module 8 Managing Project Risk
Delve into project risk management, the most effective and possibly least understood project management tool.

Module 9 Managing Project Quality
View quality as an organisational initiative as well as a project management knowledge area.

Module 10 Managing Project Communications and Procurement
Explore the two distinct but equally important areas of Project Communication Management and Project Procurement Management.

Module 11 Managing Talent in Projects
Leverage excellent human resources management to improve the success of your project.

Module 12 Project Delivery and Closure
Discover why project delivery or implementation is a vitally important component of planning.

COURSE CONVENOR

Maureen Tanner

Head of Department, Information Systems, UCT

Tanner’s research agenda explores software development (SD) from various perspectives, including project management, software engineering, team collaboration and management, the SD context, end-user perspectives, the impact of software solutions on people, as well as how to disseminate SD-related knowledge. Her research contributions are highly relevant to both practitioners and academia. Through in-depth case studies, Tanner employs the latest SD techniques to deliver quality software that makes a valuable impact on business and society.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

This course is relevant to professionals who have experience in project management.
In order to ensure that this course is suitable for you, you’ll be required to submit a suitable project to your Head Tutor for approval once the course goes live. This approved project will be used as a building block for your ongoing project plan. It’ll also ensure that at the end of this 12-week online short course you’ll have a completed plan for a real-world project that can be practically applied in your current role.

Please consider the following recommendations surrounding the project you select to use during this course:

  • The project should be one that you have a working knowledge of, where you fulfilled a role on the project, i.e. as project manager, project sponsor, or project team member
  • The project should either have already started, and be well underway, or should be a project completed within the last 10 years
  • The project should ideally be of medium to large scale in relation to its rand value, the number of project stakeholders, and the project duration
  • You should have access to all or a majority of the project documentation
