Over the duration of this online short course, you’ll work through the following modules:

Towards an applied definition of risk.

MODULE 2 Governance, Ethics and Reputational Risk
Applying corporate governance principles to mitigate risks of ethical and reputational failure.

MODULE 3 Internal Controls
Understanding the importance of internal controls and internal audit in risk management.

MODULE 4 Information Systems Risk
Using information systems in risk management and managing risks associated with technology.

MODULE 5 Financial Risk and Foreign Operations
Assessing and responding to common financial risks faced by companies.

MODULE 6 Investment Risk
Exploring investment opportunities and risks.

MODULE 7 Behavioural Risk
Investigating and mitigating risks related to people.

MODULE 8 Risk Awareness: Recording, Monitoring and Reviewing
Looking at risks in context and preparing and presenting a risk report.

COURSE CONVENOR

David Taylor

Associate Professor, African Institute of Financial Markets and Risk Management (AIFMRM), UCT

Taylor is the founding Director of AIFMRM. Since its establishment in 2012, he has been leading the institute in its mission to advance the fields of financial markets and risk management. Prior to AIFMRM, he was an Associate Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he coordinated the Honours programme in Advanced Mathematics of Finance at the School of Computational and Applied Maths. Taylor's expertise lies in the areas of financial modelling and derivative pricing. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge.
